As 2022 draws to a close, we can all agree that it's been an eventful year for our shipping industry around the world.

Until recently, back when global supply chains ran smoothly, most of us could forget that they even exist or give them a second thought. It was normal to expect grocery store shelves to be full and that an item we ordered online would arrive in due time.

In the past two years, though, we saw supply chains disrupted by the aftershocks of the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in consumer habits. This resulted in supply chain gridlock and inflation. Many of you have felt the impact. We know how cost increases and supply delays can affect the way businesses operate here, and in turn impact citizens’ purchasing power.

As a transportation infrastructure, our Port must keep doing its part to support communities.

“As global supply chains recovered from the impact of the pandemic, our year was marked by a comprehensive process of reflection.”

Today, we’re in a different logistics landscape than before the pandemic. Warehouses are running out of space, companies are facing labour shortages and inflation is high. So, now is a time both to reflect and to act!

To continue to provide the same quality of service and to fulfill our primary mission, namely to move goods as efficiently as possible to link communities, we have been brainstorming ways to adapt to these challenges. Challenges that we intend to meet with equal parts determination and conviction.

As global supply chains recovered from the impact of the pandemic, our year was marked by a comprehensive process of reflection. Externally, we carried out a wide-ranging consultation to help build our vision for the future through to 2030. And internally, we have been working on our next strategic plan.

We look forward to sharing the results of these reflections with you. In the meantime, you can be sure that more than ever, we’re looking to the future to provide the most appropriate, efficient and sustainable transportation infrastructure possible, to better assist you on a daily basis and in all circumstances.

Happy holidays, everyone!
