Veco Mobilité is presented the Sustainable Horizon Award by the Port of Montreal

A company born from innovation

Founded in 2017 under the name Véco Taxi before becoming Véco Mobilité, the company quickly realized that its mission extended far beyond simply providing taxi services. “We aim to offer turnkey mobility solutions tailored to the needs of organizations, institutions, and the tourism sector,” explains Pierre Lopez, Director of Operations. Behind Véco Mobilité is a team of around fifteen people, including specialists in technology, hospitality, and software development. At the heart of their vision is a technology platform developed in Quebec that receives transportation requests, analyzes them, and automatically dispatches them to the right drivers and vehicles.

An arrival at the Port of Montreal… almost by chance

The story between Véco Mobilité and the Grand Quay began unexpectedly. At the time, the Port of Montreal faced a major challenge: ensuring that enough taxis were available when cruise ships arrived. “With 2,000 to 3,000 passengers sometimes disembarking at the same time, visitors had difficulty finding a vehicle quickly.” Thanks to its driver network and application already used by thousands of drivers, Véco Mobilité was able to respond rapidly. The company sent notifications to its drivers to increase taxi availability at the Grand Quay starting the very next morning. The results were immediate.

This initial success convinced the Port of Montreal teams to continue the partnership. Véco Mobilité then undertook a deeper analysis of transportation flow challenges at the Grand Quay in order to propose a structured and sustainable solution. “Today, our system allows the right number of vehicles to arrive at the right time. We improve traffic flow and space management,” says Pierre.

Focusing on transportation electrification

While promoting the use of electric vehicles within its network, Véco Mobilité also collects detailed data on trips, distances traveled, and greenhouse gas emissions avoided. This information helps identify cruise passengers’ primary destinations — such as the airport, hotels, or other attractions — and allows operations to be adjusted accordingly.

Developing a complete tourism experience

Today, Véco Mobilité aims to go even further. The company is currently working on the development of “Véco Tour,” a tourism offering designed to provide visitors with sightseeing experiences aboard electric vehicles. Over the longer term, Véco Mobilité also plans to develop excursions to Quebec City, Montebello, and other regional destinations through its “Véco Trip” concept.

A model expanding beyond the Grand Quay

The success of the Grand Quay project has enabled Véco Mobilité to develop additional partnerships, notably with the maritime pilots of the Laurentian Pilotage Authority (APL). For the past three years, the company has been managing their transportation using a fleet that is progressively being converted to fully electric vehicles. This combination of technology, sustainable mobility, and operational expertise now contributes to providing a smoother, more efficient, and more modern experience for cruise passengers, crews, and all users of the Port of Montreal.
