The organizations we support

The Port of Montreal supports about 50 organizations or projects each year, including the Antre-Jeunes de Mercier-Est youth services centre, the Sentier urbain vegetable garden, Jeunes musiciens du monde, and Colonie Sainte-Jeanne d'Arc.

Eligibility criteria for financial support

The organization must meet the following criteria:

  • The organization has official status and a registration number as a non-profit organization or government agency or is an Indigenous organization
  • The recipient of the request is a group of individuals (not a single individual)
  • The organization demonstrates sound management and can provide audited annual financial statements upon request
  • The organization agrees that the MPA may make public its association with the activity or organization

The organization must create a positive impact in at least one of these three sectors:

  • Socio-economic development of Montreal, the Contrecœur region and/or our First Nations partners
  • Support for seafarers and training in maritime trades.
  • Protection of ecosystems and the energy transition.

The Port may also support partnerships and community-benefiting initiatives, including contributions to causes with strong social impact, support for partner organizations, or assistance for research projects related to port activities and their social or environmental impacts. Multi-year agreements may also be established with certain organizations.

However, the following organizations and initiatives are not eligible:

  • Organizations that do not respect human rights
  • Religious or political initiatives at any level
  • Organizations already largely funded by the government, another major group, or by a private school or educational institution
  • Building construction projects, except those aimed at improving the city–port interface
  • Film or documentary projects
