Increased Visibility and Reduced Energy Footprint at the Maisonneuve Terminal
Terminal operator Termont recently upgraded the outdoor lighting system at the Maisonneuve Terminal in collaboration with Concept Illumination. The project aimed to ensure long-term compliance with safety requirements under the Canada Labour Code, while improving system reliability, reducing energy consumption, and limiting light pollution.
This initiative enhances both operational safety and environmental performance. The results are clear and measurable:
🔹 Over 80% reduction in energy consumption
🔹 Decreased long-term maintenance requirements
🔹 Optimized lighting for a safer working environment
The new luminaires were positioned parallel to the ground to reduce glare and focus illumination on work areas. This approach significantly improves nighttime visibility across the terminal while minimizing light pollution.
The installation was carried out in a complex logistical environment where trucks, trains, and vessels operate simultaneously. Each 100-foot mast was lowered and raised using a hydraulic system, except for two masts that required crane access. Careful planning ensured minimal disruption to terminal operations.
The work was completed over four weeks, at a pace of one mast per day, while maintaining high safety standards—demonstrating strong execution in an active operational setting.
