The MPA recently announced four new appointments: Florida Koco, Jean-Manuel Potvin, Alexis Carmona and Geneviève Bouchard. Time to get to know them better!

Florida Koco, Billing Agent

florida koco

Florida is a newcomer to the Port of Montreal, and to Canada as well! She recently emigrated from Albania with her family, including her two young daughters. She holds a Master’s in Accounting and Auditing and brings over 10 years of accounting experience in the hospital and manufacturing sectors. Florida is a numbers person through and through. “I always knew I wanted to work in this profession, and I work with a passion.” What was her favourite subject in school as a child? Math, 100%.

Are you happy to be in Canada?  She told us, ”It’s the best country in the world! I’ve been trying to get here for eight years. This is my first winter, and so far I really like the snow.” Quite a difference from her home country, where she lived by the sea and went to the beach six months a year... Maybe we’ll ask her a couple of years from now how she feels about snow ;-)

Her interests include swimming, which she has been doing for 18 years, and cooking. In terms of her culinary specialties, Italian cuisine has been an influencer. Among her future plans, Florida wants to travel and discover the country, and further her professional development in accounting right here.

Welcome to the MPA, Florida, and welcome to Canada!

Jean-Manuel Potvin, Supervisor, Electrical Network

jean manuel potvin

Jean-Manuel, who started in 2021 as an electrical technician, was recently promoted to the position of Supervisor, Electrical Network.

Jean-Manuel told us he has “always been an electrician.” He acquired many years of experience through various mandates at companies such as Nordic Kraft and Bélanger-Laminée. Recently, he went through the demanding process of working days while taking night classes to finish his training. “That’s hard, especially with kids. I’ll definitely push them to go to school when they’re young,” said the father of four. What does he like about his job? “I like solving problems, racking my brain to find the source and solve them.”

In his spare time, Jean-Manuel is keen on music. A former heavy metal guitarist, he claims to have mellowed over the years, “I don’t need to go as fast anymore... I’ve matured!” He remains a fan of many different styles and is happy to go to concerts with his older sons.

Today, Jean-Manuel says he is very proud to work at the Port of Montreal, an environment that “has always interested him.” He had actually applied for the job 20 years ago... but didn’t get a callback. “This time when I saw the ad, I went back. I had a lot more experience than I did 20 years ago... and it worked!” And we’re really happy to have you on the team!

Alexis Carmona, Technician, Mechanical and Building Maintenances

alexis carmona

Originally from the south of France and a Quebecer by choice for over a decade, Alexis brings several years of experience in industrial mechanics, maintenance work and water treatment, notably at Nordikeau. What does he like about his job? “I like to use my hands,” he told us. He likes the hands-on aspect as much the thought, precision and concentration required to repair breakdowns.

At the Port of Montreal, he especially likes the variety. “Welding, cutting, assembly, mechanics, building maintenance... You never do the same thing from one day to the next!”

In his spare time, his interests are just as eclectic. An avid sportsman, he played rugby for over 15 years, practices cycling and weight training, and admits to being a huge soccer fan. Alexis is also a passionate cook... His specialty? Beef bourguignon, as well as—inherited from his Italian grandmother—eggplant parmigiana. And recently, he bought a house that he renovated entirely with his own hands, from the basement to the attic. “It was my first home purchase, so I gave it my all!”

That’s what we call a jack of all trades... Welcome to the team!

Geneviève Bouchard, Communications Coordinator

genevieve bouchard

Avid for communications, Geneviève comes to us with an eclectic professional background featuring internal communications, graphic design, marketing, events and promotions. What does she love about her job? “Connecting with people,” she told us. “Finding interesting ways to share information and create fun communications.”

Take the style of events she organized in her professional past. They range from videos showcasing members of the Alouettes football team to themed games and hula hoop contests. It’s not going to be boring at the MPA!

Behind her calm and composed persona is someone who is curious about everything. “I want to try it all! I think I have what it takes to do absolutely anything...”  At present, she is enjoying cross-country skiing and painting, while trying to learn knitting and find time to read more. Not easy when you’re a mother of three, and one of them is a four-year old! The way she put it sums things up, “I’m passionate about life!”

We can’t wait to get to know you better!
