The Port of Montreal reports planting 671 trees in 2023
In keeping with its greening efforts started in 2017 in partnership with Soverdi, the Port of Montreal planted a total of 671 trees in the neighbourhoods bordering its facilities in 2023. This assessment is the first step in a five-year greening plan, which calls for planting 3,000 trees by 2027.
The trees were planted in the town of Contrecœur, where the Port of Montreal operates a bulk terminal and is currently preparing to build a new container terminal, as well as in the boroughs of Mercier Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Ville-Marie and Rivière-des-Prairies-Pointe aux-Trembles.
Locations specially chose for these plantings include schools and such health and education centres as the Louis-Dupire and Jean-Baptiste-Meilleur schools, the Daniel-Johnson high school and the Colonie Sainte-Jeanne d’Arc in Contrecœur. As in previous years, many species were selected for these plantings, ranging from oak, spruce, birch, maple, poplar, pine and linden to fruit trees such as plum, apple, cherry and Saskatoon berry.
This initiative brings to life the Port of Montreal’s commitment to contribute meaningfully to the environment and foster green areas throughout the local community.
