luminaire au terminal Bickerdike

As the main supply point for Newfoundland and the Magdalen Islands, every year this strategic terminal, supplied exclusively by local companies, handles close to 600,000 tonnes of diversified cargo, including containers, vehicles and semi-trailer trucks.

Over the past few months, the terminal's high-pressure sodium light fixtures were replaced by LED (light-emitting diode) models, which are more energy-efficient and discreetly configured in terms of light pollution. The project made it possible to:

  • Replace 37 fixtures on the four lighting towers
  • Install 18 new fixtures on the hangar roofs and replace 20 wall fixtures
  • Adjust fixture supports to reduce shaded areas between stored containers

A new smart control system was also installed so that different lighting areas can be selected and their intensity adjusted according to operational needs. This retrofit helps standardize lighting throughout the terminal while limiting light pollution for the surrounding area.

This initiative literally highlights the Port of Montreal's commitment to responsible and sustainable infrastructure management, aimed to enhance harmonious cohabitation with neighbouring communities.
