The Port of Montreal rolls up its sleeves for good causes!
With the holidays almost here and winter ahead, teams at the Montreal Port Authority are pulling out all the stops to help the less fortunate. This year, many initiatives have already been carried out to support three causes that are especially close to our hearts!
Every year, thousands of seafarers from around the world call at the Port of Montreal, often badly prepared for the rigours of Quebec winters. To help them cope with the low temperatures, a collection of warm clothing was organized. To top this off, 500 toques sporting the Port of Montreal logo were donated especially for seafarers on port calls, a gesture that brings warmth and comfort. Port of Montreal volunteers also contributed to the annual Christmas basket distribution event organized by the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve collective kitchen. This initiative distributed no fewer than 200 baskets filled with food and essential items, providing crucial support to a large number of families in the neighbourhood. The Port of Montreal supported the Comité d'entraide de Verchères and the Centre d'action bénévole de Contreocoeur with field teams and financial contributions. The Guignolée de Contrecœur collection, held on Saturday, October 26, to help local families in need, raised a total of 5,478 pounds of food was collected and $4,730.60. In Verchères, support was devoted to the preparation of Christmas baskets.
