What is the role of a freight forwarder?

Whether you are importing or exporting, freight forwarders are your indispensable allies.
What exactly do they do? They can provide a turnkey solution that combines several services to get your goods from point A to point B.
In addition to classic carrier services, they will also take care of all the details of the trip that you may not be aware of: What papers need to be filled out for the various customs? Where to store the goods on arrival or in case of delay between two transshipments? How to coordinate sea, rail and road transport to reach the destination? How to secure the best price and the best route? How to ensure that the goods are properly packed for the trip?
Freight forwarders act as intermediaries between every stage of transportation. They know the supply chain like the back of their hand and get the best price on the different means of transport that will be used to manage their client’s freight.
They also advise on administrative and customs procedures, including translations, insurance and legal formalities.
How to find the right forwarder for your goods? The Canadian International Freight Forwarders Association (CIFFA) is internationally recognized. CIFFA groups together bonded and insured freight forwarders with qualified personnel who have been in business for at least three years. You can also consult our directory, Section 13. Freight forwarders may specialize in certain types of merchandise or countries of destination... just choose the one that suits you best!
