The Montreal Port Authority welcomes the federal government's announcement that cruises can resume on the first of November. This sends cruise lines an important signal that Canada will be ready to accommodate them next season. The Port of Montreal has thirty-six international calls scheduled for 2022, which, depending on each ship’s occupancy rate, will bring in between 37,500 and 48,000 passengers. This news is also a strong signal for the tourism industry, which has been hit hard by the pandemic. In 2019, the cruise industry generated close to $30 million in economic benefits for Montreal.
