Latest updates on port operations
Updated: September 19, 2025
The Port of Montreal is closely monitoring all factors that could affect the smooth flow of operations. Here is the latest information available:
Potential strike at the MGT terminals
The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has been notified by MGT that a group of employees, currently negotiating the renewal of their collective agreement, has filed a notice announcing its intention to go on strike starting Monday, September 22, at 5 a.m.
In the event of a walkout, the terminal concerned has put mitigation measures in place. With the exception of certain schedule adjustments, operations should continue as normal.
This strike notice does not affect other terminals.
Rest assured that the MPA continues to work closely with its terminals and all partners to maintain the level of efficiency and fluidity expected by our customers. We will keep you informed of any developments.
Water Levels
The Port of Montreal continuously monitors water levels in the St. Lawrence River using 14 tide gauges located between Montreal and Quebec City and managed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. To date, levels remain below zero on the charts, but vessel safety is not at risk and operations are continuing as normal.
Up-to-date data is available on our Water levels page and through official Government of Canada sources, including the Canadian Coast Guard.
Rail operations
Rail operations are running smoothly, with dwell times averaging around three days. Occupancy of the port rail yard is currently at 62%, facilitating a fast and efficient railcar cycle. Preparations for the winter season are underway, both in terms of infrastructure management and transportation.
Trucking PORTal
All operations remain fluid, with current processing times at the truck portal averaging about 40 minutes.
We would like to remind you that the Port of Montreal team is available to provide the most up-to-date information to all partners.
