Update on water levels
Updated: August 19, 2025
The Port of Montreal continues to closely monitor all factors that could influence the fluidity of operations, particularly water levels.
Water levels
Our Control Centre conducts several checks each day and has observed that, due to low precipitation since early July, the downward trend in water levels is continuing. This remains a significant concern for our port community.
According to the most recent Water Levels Forecast Bulletin, published on August 18, levels are expected to remain below chart datum in the coming weeks, except in the event of heavy rainfall in the Great Lakes Basin. Up-to-date data is available on our Water levels page and through official Government of Canada sources, including the Canadian Coast Guard.
Rail operations
Rail service remains in good shape, with a direct and positive impact on dwell time at berth, which is currently 3.4 days. The ground inventory stands at 2,746 TEUs, the equivalent of 47,600 feet. Wagon cycle time has averaged 62 hours over the past 14 days, against a target of less than 72 h. In recent weeks, the average number of intermodal railcars has been 65,000 feet across the Port of Montreal.
Trucking PORTal
All operations remain fluid, with current processing times at the truck portal averaging about 45 minutes.
We would like to remind you that the Port of Montreal team is available to provide the most up-to-date information to all partners.
