Viau Terminal: completion of second berth

Started ahead of schedule in the fall of 2019 due to growth in the container sector, the second phase of Viau Terminal was completed over the course of 2020. Thanks to the extension of the rails for craneways to the west and the redevelopment of the area between Pie IX Boulevard and Viau Street, the terminal can now handle 600,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually. Termont will also be able to use both berths for a total quay length of 630 metres. On December 3, 2020, the MSC Sao Paulo was the first vessel to be unloaded at Viau Terminal 2.

With this milestone in the development of port infrastructure, the Port of Montreal reached its maximum container handling capacity of 2.1 million TEUs.
