TONY BOEMI APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF CRUISE THE SAINT LAWRENCE
Montreal, June 10, 2014 – The Board of Directors of Cruise the Saint Lawrence (CSL) appointed Mr. Tony Boemi as the association’s new president at its 15th Annual General Meeting held on May 29. Tony Boemi has been Vice-President, Growth and Development at the Montreal Port Authority since he joined the Port team in 2008.
“Tony Boemi has been actively involved in the marine industry for close to 40 years and he will put all that rich experience to the service of the cruise industry on the Saint Lawrence,” stated Ms. Sylvie Vachon, President and CEO of the Port of Montreal.
Montreal is becoming an increasingly popular stopover. In 2013, a record 55,611 cruise passengers disembarked in the city. This upswing can largely be attributed to the work of the Montreal Cruise Committee, which is continuing its efforts to attract more cruise ships to Montreal and encourage passengers to spend more time in town before or after their cruise.
On this committee, the Port of Montreal and Tourism Montreal have teamed up with the City of Montreal and five local associations or organizations: Aéroports de Montréal, the Hotel Association of Greater Montreal, Casino de Montréal, the Old Montreal Business Development Corporation and Old Port of Montreal Corporation.
Cruise the Saint Lawrence is an industry association that groups together partners committed to the promotion and development of the nine (9) ports of call along the shores of the Saint Lawrence River, including Montreal. The CSL receives financial support from Economic Development Canada, Tourism Québec and its industry partners. Its mission is to clearly position the Saint Lawrence as a destination with international cruise companies by defining and coordinating development efforts and partner/port of call attributes, the ultimate aim being to build a genuine Cruise the Saint Lawrence brand.
