Dear partners,

Since January, the Montréal Port Authority (MPA) has been monitoring COVID-19 and consulting with Public Health Agency of Canada, Transport Canada and other key stakeholders including federal, provincial and municipal governments. We take our direction from the Public Health Agency of Canada on health-related matters, and Transport Canada on marine operations. We will continue to act preventively and responsibly as the situation evolves. We will not make any decisions unilaterally.

The health and well-being of the port community, the larger community, our customers and our employees are priorities for us. We are working to balance that against the needs of the industries we are involved with while factoring in the latest developments in this constantly evolving situation. Most can appreciate this is challenging for all involved. We are developing guidelines and considering the implications for our employees, business operations, and the port community.

The MPA will continue to monitor the situation and take direction from the federal authorities regarding cruise operations at the Port of Montréal.

For cargo, there are currently no vessel cancellations and rail traffic continues as scheduled. Truck operations and terminal gate operations are following regular routine. We will continue to follow Transport Canada’s guidelines and the impacts on Port Operations from COVID-19.

We have increased cleaning efforts throughout MPA buildings including the Port of Montreal’s Grand Quay cruise terminal. Cleaning staff are focusing additional attention on high-frequency touch points like door handles, hand railings and washrooms. Our cleaning contractors ensure us that they are using the highest-grade commercial disinfectants and sanitizers. The MPA is suspending all international business travel for employees and is evaluating face-to-face meetings on a case-by-case basis. Work from home measures will be gradually implemented starting next week, when applicable.

We will continue to communicate throughout this situation and provide updates when warranted.
