Environmental Excellence Award
Montreal, June 17, 2015 - The Port of Montreal won the Environmental Excellence Award for the Eastern Region awarded by the Canadian International Freight Forwards Association (CIFFA). The award recognizes the project to reclaim contaminated soil through a Solidification/Stabilization (S/S) during redevelopment of the Viau sector of the Port of Montreal. The award was presented to Hugo Brassard, the engineer responsible for the project at the Port of Montreal, on June 12 at the Forwarders Celebrating Associates (FCA) Gala Dinner in Montreal.
This is the third such award earned by the land recovery and reuse project, carried out in collaboration with SNC-Lavalin. In June 2014, the engineering consulting firm was awarded a Grand Prize for Excellence in Transportation, Environment Category at the Gala of the Association québécoise des transports (AQTr). The American Concrete Institute’s Award of Merit to the Port of Montreal completes the green hat trick.
Popular tour of the Port of Montreal
In other news, more than 185 business people and Port of Montreal partners and employees had the chance to discover – or rediscover – port facilities thanks to a tour organized by the Montreal Port Authority on Tuesday, June 16. The invitation was initially extended by President and CEO Sylvie Vachon to members of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, and their response was enthusiastic.
The guests were invited to Iberville Passenger Terminal, where they were greeted by the sound of drumming from a 5th grade class at Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc school in the Mercier-Hochelage-Maisonneuve borough, a port neighbour. These schoolchildren are taking part in the Samajam percussion program, a project to strengthen students’ sense of belonging to their school supported by the Port of Montreal.
Before boarding the buses for the tour on port territory, the visitors were able to learn about two of the port’s major projects, namely restoration of Iberville Passenger Terminal and Alexandra Pier, and the Viau terminal expansion project.
