Students in science and management techniques at CEGEP du Vieux-Montréal tour the Port of Montreal’s facilities as part of their international procurement course.

November 18 and 19

Students in logistics and transportation at CEGEP Champlain take a two-day training course at the Port of Montreal.

December 1st

This port holds open houses in Contrecoeur. On the agenda: the development project of a container terminal on port land in this municipality, allowing the 200+ people taking part to share their impressions and concerns with those in charge at the port authority. Overall, the project is well received.

December 3, 4 and 5

The port holds open houses at Iberville Passenger Terminal to brief neighbouring residents on the project to restore Alexandra Pier and Iberville Passenger Terminal. December 18

Marie-Claude Boisvert, Chief Operating Officer of Desjardins Business Capital régional et coopératif, is appointed to the board of directors of the Montreal Port Authority. The Governor General in Council makes this appointment, on the recommendation of the Minister of Transport in consultation with port users.

January 2, 2015

The CSL Welland, the newest Canada Steamship Lines vessel in its Trillium Class fleet serving the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, docks at the Port of Montreal. Read the press release

The 176th Gold-Headed Cane presentation ceremony is held in the D.J. Taddeo Room. The winner is Captain Anuj Kararia, of India, master of the Valencia Express, the first ocean-going vessel to enter the Port of Montreal without a stopover in 2015. Read the press release

January 18 and 19

The Vice-President of Operations at the Port of Montreal, Daniel Dagenais, participates in a European mission led by the Premier of Quebec, Philippe Couillard. The program includes a tour of the Port of Antwerp, a major partner with which the Port of Montreal has a collaborative agreement.

January 20

The Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, Denis Lebel, announces a major investment in key enhancements to the Port of Montreal, financed under the New Building Canada Fund. The announcement was made at the Port of Montreal’s headquarters in the presence of the President and CEO of the port, Sylvie Vachon, and the Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre.

This financial assistance will be used mainly to increase container-handling capacity, and improve road access to the port as well as deepen vessel berths. Read the PortInfo Express


January 28 and 29

The port’s Vice-President, Growth and Development, Tony Boemi is a speaker at the trade show and conference organized by Cargo Logistics Canada, in Vancouver. Accompanying him is the Director, Growth and Development, Containers, Rosetta Iacono.

February 2

First meeting of the Good Neighbourhood Committee of the Port of Montreal (MPA). Made up of citizens, representatives of local organizations operating on port territory, municipal representations and representatives of the MPA, this committee has the following goals:

  • Foster closer, lasting relations between the MPA and its surrounding communities;
  • Establish a dialogue and facilitate information sharing on activities on port territory;
  • Provide a forum for discussion and exchange on shared topics of interest;
  • Develop a collaborative mode for resolving neighbourhood issues;
  • Create a liaison mechanism that brings together the key stakeholders ahead of project implementations, thereby facilitating their integration into riverside communities.

This initial meeting will allow participants to get acquainted, to validate the committee’s mandate and to be informed of the relationship strategy with communities near the MPA and the main development projects on its territory. A second meeting is scheduled for Spring 2015.
