The Port of Montreal is one of the safest international ports in the world. Its perimeter and terminals are fenced and under constant surveillance. All those working in the port must have an identity and access card issued by the port's security service.
Security guards and fire-prevention inspectors protect people and goods 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
At the harbour master's control centre, open 24 hours a day, coordinators have a bird's eye view of the entire port territory, thanks to more than 350 port video cameras installed at strategic locations. All security systems are linked to the control centre.
Montreal, one of the safest international ports in the world.
The Port of Montreal has its own emergency intervention plan. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Sûreté du Québec and municipal police and fire-prevention services are allowed immediate access to the port at any time, as are customs and immigration agents and Environment Canada. The Montreal Port Authority works closely with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) in applying its Partners in Protection program. Finally, highly-qualified pilots, the Canadian Coast Guard and Transport Canada work in each of their fields to ensure safe navigation on the St. Lawrence.
