Fednav, a partner of the Port of Montreal, is recognized by Mediacorp as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 2014. Fednav is the first Canadian shipping company to have received this distinction. Earlier this year, the company won the award as one of Montreal’s Top Employers

Groupe Lafrance, a container-based transport, storage and logistics company and partner of the Port of Montreal, receives the prix ESTim in the category Distribution or Service Company (more than $10M in turnover), awarded by Montreal East’s board of trade, the Chambre de commerce de l’Est de Montréal (CCEM).

At the same gala event, Samajam was awarded the prix ESTim in the Arts and Culture category. The Port of Montreal is a partner in the major “stay-in-school” project that Samajam successfully champions.

May 11

First visit to the Port of Montreal by the new vessel from Transport Desgagnés, the Laurentia Desgagnés. A second « new » vessel, the Espada Desgagnés, followed a few weeks later on June 2. That day, the Port accommodated nine vessels from Transport Desgagnés.

Holland America’s cruise ship the Maasdam celebrates its 10th consecutive season in Montreal by awarding a prize to the 100,000th passenger to disembark in Montreal and the 100,000th person to board in Montreal on a cruise to Boston.

The American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) recognizes the Port of Montreal with two awards through its 2014 Communications Awards Program: an Award of Distinction in the Special Events category for the 175th Gold-Headed Cane Presentation Ceremony; and an Award of Distinction in the Periodicals category for Logbook E-magazine.

The Port of Montreal wins a Merit Award, Special Events, for the 175th anniversary of the Gold-Headed Cane Presentation Ceremony by the Port of Montreal. The Award was accepted by Sophie Roux, Director of Communications, at the World Conference of the International Association of Business Communicators held in Toronto, June 8 to 11.

The Board of Directors of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) elects Robert Sauvé to the office of President of the Ordre. Mr. Sauvé is   Director of Infrastructure Management at the Montreal Port Authority (MPA).

Transport Desgagnés is the recipient of the Maritime Award of the Americas in the category Best Practices in Environmental Waste Management in Commercial Shipping, awarded by the Organization of American States. Its vessel Camilla Desgagnés was recently granted a Level 3, Silver Grade Performance Certificate by Recyc-Québec’s ICI ON RECYCLE! Program, for achieving a recycling rate on board of 84.5%.

The Port of Montreal ratifies the “Missions Charter of a Port Centre” during AIVP Days, held at the same time as the annual general meeting of the Worldwide Network of Port Cities (AIVP) from June 26 to 28, in Genoa. The Charter defines in ten points the basic challenges and objectives of any Port Centre. Along with the MPA, eight port cities that have a Port Centre or a Port Centre project (Antwerp, Le Havre, Dunkirk, Houston, Ashdod, Livorno and Genoa) have ratified this charter. For the MPA, signing the charter is a symbolic gesture expressing the MPA’s willingness to develop a Port Centre in the mid- to long-term, particularly as part of the possible reconstruction of its cruise passenger terminal. During the AIVP meetings, Sylvie Vachon, President and CEO of the Port of Montreal, together with a City of Montreal dignitary gave a presentation then led a discussion on port-city cohabitation and the opportunities and challenges arising from a logistics hub in Greater Montreal.
