Port of Montreal welcomes the Pierre-Julien, Ocean Group’s newest tugboat
Montreal, April 19, 2013 – Océan Remorquage Montréal yesterday christened its newest tugboat, the OCEAN PIERRE JULIEN. The ceremony took place at the Iberville Passenger Terminal in the Port of Montreal. Among those in attendance were Messrs. Gordon Bain and Jacques Tanguay, Ocean’s President and First Vice-President and General Manager, respectively, Ms. Sylvie Vachon, President and CEO of the Montreal Port Authority, Mr. Pierre Julien, Executive Vice-President – Special Projects at Ocean, and his spouse, Ms. Nicole Gagné, the vessel’s godmother.
“I am delighted to see this new state-of-the-art tug in port, the second in less than three years. This shows how much confidence Ocean has in the development of port activity in Montreal and its commitment to consistently provide top-notch services through the skills of its crews and the quality of its equipment,” Ms. Vachon said.
The 25-metre-long tug is equipped with the latest technologies, including a firefighting system with water cannons that have an output capacity of 1,200 cubic metres per hour, the equivalent of five water tankers. It is powered by two omnidirectional Z-drive propellers and twin engines that can reach 4,000 BHP.
Ocean Group operates four tugboats for port operations in Montreal.
