Open house for new L’Antre-Jeunes de Mercier-Est location

Thanks to the financial contribution of the MPA and other donors, L’Antre-Jeunes de Mercier-Est is now welcoming young people from the neighbourhood to a new bright, cheerful and more spacious location that better meets their needs.

The facility has moved just down the street, to 8695 Hochelaga Street, from its previous location and celebrated with an open house on the evening of February 9.

The L’Antre-Jeunes de Mercier-Est home is a place where youth aged 13 to 17 can get together in a warm and friendly setting and make friends, talk with two full-time youth services workers, play billiards, table tennis and foosball or table soccer, watch videos and listen to music, and play musical instruments.

The MPA was also pleased to be a sponsor of the 15th edition of the L’Antre-Jeunes de Mercier-Est annual wine and cheese benefit on April 6. Some 280 guests attended the event, which raised close to $75,000 for the organization.

Port sponsors Village Mammouth

The MPA sponsored once again this past winter the spectacular and popular Village Mammouth winter village, located at the foot of Olympic Stadium, in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.

Providing fun and entertainment for the entire family, the village’s main attractions were a skating rink and a 30-metre-long six-metre-high inner tubing slide. The MPA sponsored a heated terrace, decked out in port colours, where people could kick back and relax. There was also the District Nord winter market where more than a dozen artisans set up and displayed local products.

Youngsters introduced to ice fishing in Contrecoeur

Some 80 youngsters aged 9 to 12, joined by members of their families, were introduced to the sport of ice fishing at a ‘Pêche en herbe’ tournament organized by the Association de chasse et pêche de Contrecoeur (Contrecoeur Hunting and Fishing Association) and the Comité ZIP des Seigneuries on February 19. The MPA was one of the sponsors of the event.

The ‘Pêche en herbe’ (Young Sport Fishers) program, launched by the Fondation de la faune de Québec (Quebec Wildlife Foundation), promotes recreational fishing to youngsters aged 9 to 12 and allows them to experience the thrill of sport fishing – both ice fishing and summer fishing.
