The importance of technology in the eyes of those managing logistics and IT

Eye for Transport, the business intelligence organization that specializes in information for the logistics and supply chain industry, surveyed logistics and information technology managers in October 2011. The survey results show that: 

  • 70% of respondents said they intended to increase their investment in information technology during 2012.
  • 50% of respondents said they intended to invest in Transport Management Systems, while 44% identified mobile technology as their priority.
  • 73% believed they should be reporting directly to their CEO, which shows the increasing importance given to logistics and technologies within companies.


The importance of technology in the eyes of transport logistics providers

Another survey, conducted in 2009-10, focused on the use of technology in the transporation and logistics industry. Here are some of those results.

Shippers were asked if they expected to increase or decrease investment in their supply chain IT/technology over the course of the next year. 47% said that they expected an increase in investment, 33% said that they expected no change, and 20% said that they expected their levels of investment to decrease.

Respondents were asked to identify which supply chain areas have yielded the best return on investment for IT and technology. The results from the transport logistics providers were: Transport management (56%), supply chain visibility (53%), warehouse management (44%), customer relationship management (42%), order management (39%), business intelligence/reporting (31%), inventory management (28%), labour optimization (22%), supply chain planning (22%), event management (19%), enterprise resource management (14%), forecasting (11%), risk management (11%), and supply chain security (8%).
